A New Face in the Mirror

Routines. Do you ever get sick of them?

Do you ever get tired of seeing the same face in the mirror each day? What if one day when you got up in the morning and looked into the mirror, a completely different pair of eyes stared back at you? A different mouth gaped back at you. A wonderful new mane of hair sat on your head.

I think about these things. I love variety in life and get bored easily. Housework? So, so repetitive. What's the point in washing the floor when it's only going to get dirty again? Those dishes in the sink? Sure, you can wash them, dry them and put them away. But in another few hours they're going to go back to being dirty all over again. They never get done!

I'm thinking this might actually be a cool idea for a novel or short story. A person wakes up in the morning looking totally different. Has this idea been done before? I suppose it has. There's nothing new under the sun, right? It's all been done before. Just like routines, story ideas are explored over and over again. The trick is to put a new twist on it.

Excuse me now, I've got some thinking to do.

  1. Routines bore me to tears. Housework is the worse. Keep your brain spinning. You just might come up with the perfect twist on that premise.

  2. That's why I don't make the bed.

I think that's a great idea for a story. I thought that's where you were going when I first started reading. Maybe it's been done before, but not the way you would do it.

  3. Hmm. I really would like to explore this story idea. First I need to let it brew in my mind.

    Thanks for the comments!

  4. I like a lot of variety. When my wife and I go out to eat at our favorite Thai restaurant, the waitress always knows what my wife wants because she usually sticks to her favorite. Whereas, the waitress has to wait for me to order because it keeps changing.

In the bizarre David Lynch movie LOST HIGHWAY, a man is imprisoned for killing his wife, but then one day wakes up as a totally different person. They have to release him since he's someone else. Then the movie gets really weird.

  5. Thanks for your comments, Lee.

Sounds like a bizarre movie, yeah. Well, I guess I'll have to put a different spin on this idea.

Yup, I agree about the food. Variety is good.

  6. That does kind of sound cool! My hair has been the same my entire life. I can't imagine it different.
